July 13, 2008 Ruling reversed as per corrected WCPM race rules. The second final ruling is in for the Mission Race, where Joe Delehay defeated Dan Vogt at MRP three weeks ago. Joe was light ast the scales but was awarded the win originally. That ruling was reversed as per IHRA Tech Director Mike Baker (IHRA race rules apply at the WCPM events). The ruling is, "being light at the scales or bypassing the scales are the worst infractions in the first or worst rules. So the red light by Vogt was deemed to be the lesser of the two infractions, giving him the win in the end. I thought that would be the ruling, as I talked personally to Mike Baker last weekend at Edmonton, and he stated that was the IHRA rule. I did not want to post that until I heard from Greg Perrine (WCPM race director) Congrat's to the Vogt Brothers team! Points will be posted soon. July 1, 2008 This just in, from WCPM Tech Director Greg Perrine........... The
ruling I got this morning from Jim There you have it. Joe Delehay gets the win and the $2,500.00 winner cheque. Happy Canada Day Still waiting confirmation from the IHRA (WCPM follows their race rules) on the two race infractions. Hope to have an answer by Tuesday night. June 30, 2008 Mission is complete but who is the winner.... Find out more here. June 27, 2008 Results and team press releases from Mission are here. June 16, 2008 Salt lake is complete, but there was bad news to go along with the good news. BJ Verkler won his first ever WCPM event from the #1 qualifiying position , but the win was overshadowed by an crash with two PM competitors. Both are Drivers are okay but the cars were extensively damaged. The new Vogt Corvette with Dan behind the wheel and a new team tp the association with driver Flip Payne behind the wheel, were the two drivers. More info and the full results as soon as I get them.
June 11, 2008 Salt Lake hotel and event info is here. The season is finally going to get underway this weekend at Salt Lake City's Rocky Mountain Raceway. It never rains there, right? After two attempts at race #1 at Billings (Acton's Yellowstone Dragstrip), this series head way south for hot action and a huge crowd at Rocky Mountain Raceway. Below is a bit of a preview of the race teams For immediate release... June 12, 2008 The 2008 season for the West Coast Pro Mod association looks to be a series that is going to be 'Nitrous' strong. WCPM's is an association that seems goes through car (and engine type) changes every couple years. The last couple seasons, the blower cars have been more prevalent, with guys like Joe Delehay, Trevor Lowe and Glen Kerunsky dominating. Prior to that, Dennis Radford and Pat Stoken in the nitrous variety were the dominant players. This year it looks like the Nitrous cars are going to make up the majority of the fields. A number of the long standing teams that have fielded nitrous cars moved up big time with new cars and new power. Vern Mills has a new 55 Chevy, his favorite car model and major power from Custom Balance. Ross Hogenson took delivery of a new 63 Corvette, after his dreadful crash at the '07 Rocky Mountain Nationals. The Vogt brother also have a new car, also a 63 Corvette, and early testing at Vegas went very well. Rod Pearce took delivery of his new 63 Corvette last year, and has a year of testing under his belt. Don Snavely is in his second year with his 07 Corvette, and he will be behind the wheel of that awesome ride later this season. Wayne Hofer is back in the series and will drive his trusty Acadian (Nova), until his new 63 Corvette is ready to go. Tom Meheden has new power, a Fulton 712 cu in monster. Perry Thyr has got more power (706 Fulton) as well, and will be back full time this season. Dennis Radford and Billy Harper will run a couple events (Denver and Boise) and will be major threats at both, as they are two of the top nitrous teams in the country, with Harper shattering the record books at ADRL events already this season. For the blown contingent in 2008, Tom Johanns plans to run the whole series, and he has a couple new BAE bullets at his disposal. Joe Delehay will likely not defend his title, as he has cut back his schedule due to work commitments, and will make it out to select events in 2008. Trevor Lowe is taking the year of and will return in 09 with the teams trusty 57 Chevy. Rick Di Stefano will be back out in 08 with the 53 Corvette and new blown power, and will race a few WCPM events. BJ Verkler in his unique 1954 blown sedan will be at two or three events in 2008. Bryon Mackey and the team's 41 Willys will try and make it out to a couple races this season. Dave Jackson will run one or two events this year as well. When the teams head west to Mission, a couple local team will surely come out and play including Keith Korecki (nitrous) Glen May (blown) and Jay Syvertsen (blown). That race has gone back to an 8 car field for 2008. The Mission race is two weeks after this weekend's Salt Lake race and then the teams get a month and a half off before they head to Boise for the hugely popular Nightfire Nationals. That event will see a huge car count and no doubt a record setting track bump spot. The week after the nightfires, the series heads to Bandimere Speedway for the first time ever. That event will showcase many of the local cars in the area as well as the full time WCPM teams who are very excited to compete at the mile high track. The series then heads to Billings for the season finale and a hope for better weather than the canceled season opener Who will be the major players in 2008? My guess is Tim/Dan Vogt, Ross Hogenson, Vern Mills, Tom Meheden and Tom Johanns will be the top five at the end of the year. The entry list for this weekends event at Salt Lake one of the most popular event on the schedule is below: Vern Mills It is a one day affair with the winner and runner-up going six rounds in one day. It is a battle of the fittest for sure. For Hotel info and run times go to the Salt Lake race page at the association web site, www.westcoastpromods.com
We have a season series preview in the works and it will be up in the next few days. Included will be a event by eventpreview as well as the run down of all teams running the series full time this year. With so many new rides announced it should be a great season. The Nitrous cars seem to be the most prevalent but there is news on the blower front. One team that has been laying low for the last year and a bit is Rick Di Stefano . He will be back this year very soon, with the 53 but a whole new engine combination. They should debut at the Mission Pro Mod event the end of June Stay tuned, as we hope to have some interesting reading since weather has been the only news story in the last couple weeks. Don Snavely (Tim Vogt driver). Vern Mills The WCPMA has a new tech director for 2008. Greg Perrine from Bozeman Mt. has been a NHRA tech official at Lewistown Raceway for several years. He was recently to The IHRA race in Rockingham N.C. where he spent the weekend with Bob Stinnet and Howie Dalton of IHRA tech for some on the job training.
