Team West Coast Pro Mod had another great outing. Canadian's
Rick Distefano and Glen Kerunsky proved again that the
West Coast Pro Mod Association has some of the best
competitors in North America as they leave Rockingham
first and second in the pint's standings. Rick qualified
#2 and went to the semi finals before tire shake got
the best of him against Mike Janis. Janis also defeated
Glen Kerunsky in the second round and went on to win
the event over another Canadian Al Billes. Three Canadian
Pro Mod teams are in the top four in the standings.
The other regular West Coast Pro Mod competitor, Pat
Stoken, failed to qualify for the tough 6.27 bump spot.

April
23, 2004 Glen
Kerunsky, Rick Distefano and Pat Stoken are all in competition
at Rockingham this weekend for race #2 in the IHRA Hooters
series. Kerunsky hot after the opening event of the
year at San Antonio is looking to keep his winning streak
going as he has won his last 7 rounds of competition
dating back to the 2003 season where he won the season
ending West Coast race at Mission Raceway to clinch
the series championship. He continued his winning ways
at the IHRA opening event of this year in San Antonio.
This weekend at Rockingham, he knows the competition
will even be tougher as there are expected to be 40-50
Pro Mods at the Legendary North Carolina facility. High
6.20's probably won't be enough to get into the winners
circle but if he can run low 20's or a high team he
could end up going rounds. While he is not going to
race the whole IHRA circuit he is planning on running
four events and possibly as many as six. He could certainly
make some serious noise and shake up the series in the
"I".
Rick
Distefano is also at Rockingham and I'm trying to find
out if he is debuting the new 53 or still running last
year's. No matter which car he is if, he will certainly
be one of the favorites along with Kerunsky. Rick has
the car running real well and if they can keep the wick
lit to 1320 feet or a little longer the field better
take notice. Rick is planning on running the entire
series as well as most of the West Coast events.
Pat Stoken
is making his 2004 season debut and what an tough task
the Montana Driver has. He has a great car and a very
strong engine program but the lack of laps could be
a hindrance for the team. It will for sure take a career
best for Pat to make the field but it is possible and
we wish him all the luck in the world. Hopefully he
gets at least a strong baseline for when the West Coast
series starts up at Boise in a few weeks.

To All West Coast Pro Mod competitors:
Regarding Full
Floater rules for Pro Mod competition.
NHRA has stated
that all Pro Mods competing in AMS Pro Mod Challenge
events at national events must meet IHRA rules. Therefore
Full Floater is mandatory by June 1, 2004. Pro Mods
competing in Comp Eliminator and exhibition as West
Coast Pro Mods will NOT
need to meet the Full Floater
standard on nitrous cars. The NHRA rule book does require
full floaters for all blown pro mods.
Keep in mind this rule could change in 2005. Remember,
the Edmonton IHRA race in July and the West
Coast Pro Mod event there in September will require
a full floater on all Pro Mods.

I would like to produce a limited "edition souvenier

Canadian Pro Mod standout Carl Spiering was at the Super
Chevy Show in Bradenton Florida last week and ran very
well in its first outing in the ex Tim McAmis 63 Corvette.
Spiering bought the car Tim McAmis drove last year and
set et records on the AMS tour. The car went 6.08 last
year. In his first outing of the year Spiering went
a 6.27 best to qualify #2 in Pro Mod legal trim. Gary
Irving was #1 qualifier in Nitro Coupe trim with a 6.15.

March
2, 2004 Rockingham Pre Season Test (new
rule change for rear ends in IHRA announced.)
Not much
action to speak of from Rockingham this past weekend
because of moisture in the form of the white stuff,
ya that's right, snow fell in the area throughout the
week. There was still snow along the banks of the track
while cars made laps on Friday and Saturday. Go to Rockingham's
web site and click on the Sunday page and go half
way down to the John Montecalvo picture from the right
lane to see all the snow. Plus there is a gallery at
the bottom of the page with the white stuff. While it
did warm up substantially on the weekend, the moisture
and the water table close to the track surface made
it difficult for the track to dry properly. They were
working on the surface all weekend and a number of short
runs were made, but nothing of note. Todd Tutterow,
John Montecalvo, Quain Stott, Pat Musi and Paul Athey
were a couple of the big name drivers that were hoping
to test. Montecalvo, Athey and Tutterow did make squirts
and Todd sheared off a rear tire. Whether or not that
was the capper for the IHRA or not, a new ruling was
announced yesterday. "Effective May 25, 2004, all
entries in IHRA Pro Modified competition must utilize
an aftermarket full floating or live axle rear end assembly".
The delay in the
effective date was selected to provide a fair and reasonable
amount of time to perform the necessary upgrade that
will be mandatory at the ACDelco Nationals at Virginia
Motorsports Park May 28-30, 2004.
